Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball has announced the signing of Azia Himeur as their first signing of the this year’s class.

Himeur has proven to be one of the better guards in the state of New Mexico and will finish her senior season at Cibola High School in Albuquerque, N.M. this winter. The 5’8 guard averaged 14.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest last season and was named the 2019-20 Offensive Player of the Year for her district.

“We are excited to add Azia to our program.” Head coach Josh Prock said, “One of the top priorities for us has always been to keep our in-state talent here at Eastern New Mexico. We firmly believe Azia is one of the best players in New Mexico this year and is a complete player.”

Himeur was the offensive catalyst for a Cibola program that finished 19-8 in 2019-20, just a few seasons removed from finishing as the 6A state runner ups in 2017-18. She was named a Second Team All-Metro selection in 2019-20 as well as a First Team All-District selection after shooting 45 percent for the year from three-point range and 51 percent from the field.

“She can score beyond the arc and has a unique ability to score the basketball inside the paint with a high level of consistency.” Coach Prock said, “She is a tenacious defender and is very quick, allowing her to excel in the transition game.”

She was named to the 2019-20 Academic All-District Team and is currently a member of the National Honor Society at Cibola. She was voted the Junior Class Secretary and is also an active member of the French National Honor Society.

“Azia is a tremendous young lady off the court as well and is a great student that will do an incredible job representing our program off the court.” Coach Prock said.
