Mark your calendars and bring your appetite—Portales’ cherished annual Turkey Dinner at The Methodist Church is back on Thursday, November 13th! This heartwarming event has become a staple of the fall season, drawing friends, families, and neighbors together for a day of delicious food and community spirit.
Event Schedule
- Lunch: 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM
- Dinner: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
- Dine-In or Carry-Out Available
Whether you’re grabbing a plate to go or settling in for a cozy meal among friends, the Turkey Dinner promises all the classic fixings: tender roasted turkey with savory dressing, tangy cranberry sauce, and a generous slice of pumpkin pie. It’s the kind of meal that tastes like home—and feels like it too.
Powered by Volunteers, Fueled by Love
Behind the scenes, an army of dedicated volunteers works tirelessly for days to bring this event to life. It’s a massive undertaking:
- 52 turkeys roasted to golden perfection
- 32 roasters filled with homemade dressing
- 300 pumpkin pies sliced and served
- 1,785 guests welcomed and fed last year alone
This incredible effort is a testament to the spirit of service that defines the Portales community. Longtime coordinator—and always missed—Sharon Cissell used to say, “Many hands make light work.” Her legacy lives on in every smiling face and every full plate.
Giving Back Through Every Bite
Proceeds from the Turkey Dinner support mission projects near and far, extending the generosity of this event well beyond the church walls. Every meal served helps fund outreach efforts that make a real difference in people’s lives.
More Than a Meal
This isn’t just about food—it’s about fellowship. The Turkey Dinner is a time-honored tradition where the whole community turns out to reconnect, reminisce, and share in the joy of the season. Whether you’re a longtime resident or new to town, you’ll find a warm welcome and a full plate waiting for you.
So come hungry, come grateful, and come ready to celebrate what makes Portales special. We’ll see you at The Methodist Church on November 13th!
ps. It is ok to eat Turkey Dinner twice on one day – lunch and dinner! See you there.
