PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico head football coach Tye Hiatt announced the hiring of Jamison Bisch as Greyhound Football’s new Associate Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator.

“We are excited to have Coach Bisch join our coaching staff! There were many qualified candidates for the position, but Coach Bisch separated himself from every other coach throughout the hiring process,” said Hiatt. “His attention detail, competitive drive, and love for his players were just a few of the qualities that stuck out to the coaching staff throughout this journey. He is as blue collar as they come and we are excited for him to help elevate our defense this coming year. We can’t wait to have Coach Bisch, his wife Tarrah, and their two boys join our program in the coming weeks.”

Bisch comes to Portales after spending four years at Bemidji State University, an NCAA Division II program competing in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). In his last season, Bisch was the Assistant Coach/Defensive Coordinator and helped the Beavers make the second round of the 2021 Division II NCAA Football bracket. Bemidji State finished with a No. 19 national ranking and won its opening round playoff game against Augustana (SD), 28-24.

During the 2021 season, the “Green Gang” defense recorded 37 sacks (15th in the nation) and collected 24 takeaways (24th in the nation). In total, Bisch has coached 18 All-Conference honorees, three All-Region selections, and two All-Americans with the Beavers defense, including 2018 NSIC Defensive Player of the Year, Gunner Olszewski.

“My family and I are grateful to be coming to Portales to join the Greyhound family,” said Bisch. “The last four years at Bemidji State have been amazing and we will miss everyone we worked with, especially the players. The opportunity to work with Coach Hiatt, his incredible staff, and most importantly the student-athletes is something I’m really excited about! I want to thank President Caldwell, Dr. Weir, and Coach Hiatt for trusting me with the opportunity to join the Greyhound family. See you at Greyhound Stadium this Fall!”

Before heading to Bemidji State, Bisch spent two seasons at Midland University as the Defensive Coordinator/Linebacker Coach in Fremont, Nebraska from March 2016 to February 2018. While there, Bisch oversaw the development of 15 All-GPAC (Great Plains Athletic Conference) honorees. In 2016, the Warriors program led the nation in fumbles recovered (18), while finishing third nationally in 4thdown efficiency (19%).

Prior to joining Midland, Bisch spent time at New Mexico Military Institute as the Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Back and Linebackers Coach from February 2012 to January 2016. Bisch helped NMMI to the 2013 Toro Bowl, its first bowl victory since 1999. In 2015, Bisch coached a defense that finished in the top five for forced/recovered fumbles and in the top 25 for sacks in the NJCAA. In addition to coaching roles, Bisch coordinated the NMMI youth camps and was responsible for recruiting in Louisiana, Hawaii, Virginia, Oklahoma City, Okla., St. Louis, Mo., and Las Vegas, Nev.

Bisch began his coaching career as a graduate assistant then running backs coach at Minnesota State University, Mankato from 2010-2012. As a graduate assistant, Bisch worked with defensive backs and linebackers.

Bisch earned a Bachelor of Science with a concentration in Health and Human Performance Studies from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 2008. Bisch was a defensive back for the Falcons, being named captain in 2008 and earning all-conference honors in 2007 and 2008. Bisch continued his education at Minnesota State University-Mankato, where he graduated in 2011 with a Master of Arts in Physical Education, Sport Management.
