Blanche Ann (Wilhoit) Hudson September 18, 1937 ~ January 21, 2026 (age 88)

Funeral services for Blanche (Wilhoit) Hudson, 88, of Portales will be held at 10:00 AM, Thurs., Jan. 29, 2026 at the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ with Pastor Todd Terry officiating.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Joshua Richards, Jacob Richards, Caleb Richards, Tannon Hudson, Derrick Hudson, Tyler Hudson, Sean Hudson, Jake Weatherman, Charlie Love and George Love serving as pallbearers.

Blanche Ann Hudson was born Sept. 18, 1937 in Hood County, TX to the home of Mary Lou (Baccus) and John Henry Wilhoit, and passed from this life on the evening of Jan 21, 2026 at the Retirement Ranch in Clovis where she had been a resident for the past four years.  During that time, she had received wonderful, tender care.

The Wilhoit family moved to a “dugout” west of Portales when she was a girl.  On July 3, 1960, she was married to Charley Roe Hudson.  Together, they reared five children.  The Portales area was her home her entire life except for a period from 1969 to 1974 when her husband was employed in Australia.  For many years, she and her family lived in the Arch community, where they ranched and farmed.  Blanche helped Charley with the chores, and drove a school bus as well as working part time in the Arch store.  In addition, she sold Avon products and conducted Pampered Chef home parties.  Blanche’s favorite activities involved her beloved family and creating her “Brag Books.”  She was a faithful member of the Generations Church in Portales.

She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Melvin Handy of Portales, Keavin and Patty Hudson of O’Donnell, TX and Richard and Sonya Hudson of Zavalla, TX; two daughters and  a son-in-law, Deloris and Russell Richards of Portales and Gwen Wright of Shelton, WA; an “adopted son” Michael Paul Koonce of Roswell; 14 grandchildren, Travis (Sarah) Hudson, Joshua (Danielle) Richards, Jacob (Hannah) Richards, Tabitha Love and her fiancé Kenny Love, Caleb (Genna) Richards, Tiffany (Jake) Weatherman, Tannon (Lauren) Hudson, Nicole Hudson, Aubrey (Thomas) Latos, Leah (Justin) Simmns, Bethany (Jess) Rawson, Derrick (Jade) Hudson, Tyler Hudson and Sean Hudson; 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lynn Wilhoit and Glynn Wilhoit both of Portales; and a sister, Jo Gibbs of Lone Oak, TX.  She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, E B. Lowell, Billy and Ray Wilhoit; seven sisters, Rosalee Wilhoit, Imogene Marshall, Maxene Pierson, Frances Alexander, Joyce George, and Bobbie and LaWanda Willhoit who both died as small children; and by her beloved husband, Charley who died April 22, 2017 after almost 57 years of marriage.
