CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. – A Cannon Air Force Base Airman was killed in a vehicle accident on 60/84 East in Curry County, NM on November 2, 2022. The Airman has been identified as Airman 1st Class Shaun McNair, a Water and Fuels Apprentice from the 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron.

“From the day that A1C Shaun McNair arrived on Cannon AFB, his personality shined bright. From the start, he quickly became a member of the Water and Fuel Systems Maintenance Family,” said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Daniel Griffin, 27 SOCES commander. “We came to know Shaun as a confident, can-do Airman. Shaun was well-liked and his affinity for Anime established a strong bond with the members of his shop. Needless to say, he became fast friends with every Airman in the shop. He stood out as a technician because of his willingness to learn and was a trusted member of the 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron. We will all miss him and his personality dearly.”

A1C McNair is originally from Cheyenne, Wyoming. He graduated basic military training on April 28th of this year.

“We are heartbroken by the sudden loss of A1C Shaun McNair,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Terence Taylor, 27th Special Operations Wing Commander. “Our hearts are with Shaun’s family and friends during this difficult time. Our focus now is to care for and support Shaun’s family, his friends and his fellow Airmen with the various resources and support mechanisms that we have in place to help anyone that may be impacted by this loss.”
