CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. – Colonel Terence Taylor relinquished command of the 27th Special Operations Wing to Colonel Jeremy Bergin during a change of command ceremony May 24 at Cannon Air Force Base.

Lt. Gen. Tony Bauernfeind, commander of Air Force Special Operations Command, presided over the ceremony, where he praised the Air Commandos of the 27th Special Operations Wing and described all of the changes the 27 SOW has undergone in the past few years as AFSOC has shifted to our next inflection point.

“Over the last two years, under the leadership of Colonel and Mrs. Taylor, the Air Commandos of the 27th Special Operations Wing, whether countering extremist organization, competing in the grey zone or pathfinding for tomorrow, you broke down barriers to posture this fore for the future,” said Bauernfeind.

After two years of meritorious service as base commander, Col. Taylor has been assigned to Al Dhafra Air Base, where he will serve as the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing commander.

During the ceremony, Col. Taylor addressed Col. Bergin, offering words of encouragement.

“This has been the most rewarding and the most demanding experience of my career,” said Taylor. “You’re stepping into the best job, best opportunity, and the best team that the Air Force has to offer. I can’t wait to watch from afar as you take this wing in Team Cannon to new heights.”

Col. Bergin most recently served as the vice wing commander of the 14th Flying Training Wing at Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi, before taking command of the 27th Special Operations Wing.

“To the men and women of the 27th Special Operations Wing,” said Bergin, “I am deeply humbled to serve at your side. However, there’s work to do, so let’s get to it. There’s more to be done, so let’s get it done.”

The 27th Special Operations Wing at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M. plans, postures and executes precision strike, specialized mobility, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions with special operations forces. The wing is organized into four groups and 24 squadrons equipped with specialized aircraft that includes the AC-130J, CV-22, MC-130J, MQ-9, PC-12 and U-28.
