Claudie Hensley Obituary

Claudie Hensley, 86, was born Nov. 4, 1939 in Portales to the home of Ruth Elizabeth (Brown) and Claud Cooper, and passed from this life early on the morning of Dec. 10, 2025 in Amarillo, TX.  Although no formal services are planned, Claudie will be remembered with love every day.

Mrs. Hensley grew up in Portales, and was a 1957 graduate of Portales High School where she played the clarinet in the school marching band.  On May 29, 1959, she was married to Robert Louis Hensley who was stationed at Cannon Air Force Base.  Mr. Hensley was later transferred to Alamogordo, NM and finally to Tucson, AZ.  The couple was blessed with the birth of two sons, Robert Wayne and Douglas.  Douglas preceded her in death in 1993, and Mr. Hensley died on Aug. 9, 2006.

While living in the Tucson area, Claudie was employed at St. Mary’s Hospital where she was an administrative assistant.  Later she worked for a counseling and consulting firm.  In 2011, Mrs. Hensley and her son, Bobby moved back to Portales.  She enjoyed doing handwork, such as crocheting and knitting as well as sewing.  Claudie also volunteered her services at La Casa Senior Center.

She is survived by her son, Bobby of their home; and a sister, Marcella Bailey of Portales.  She was preceded in death by both of her parents, a brother, Billy Cooper and a sister, Luella Powers as well as by her son and husband.
