PORTALES, NM — After one of the most successful seasons in program history, the defending Lone Star Conference Champion Eastern New Mexico University women’s basketball team wants more. Josh Prock enters his fifth season and is the reigning LSC Coach of the Year after guiding the Greyhound to their first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.

“We are excited about our schedule this season,” Prock said. “It will definitely be a challenging playing some of the best teams in our region in our non-conference portion of our schedule and then as always playing in the Lone Star is a huge task.  Also, giving our ladies the opportunity to play three Division I teams in University of Arizona, UNM and Colorado State will be a fun opportunity for our team.”

Prior to the start of the season, the Hounds will face top-level opposition in NCAA Division I University of Arizona and University of New Mexico. On November 10, the season will open with a rematch against South Dakota School of Mines from last season’s 69-66 win in the opener. Eastern also will look to avenge a loss to Fort Lewis, before they visit Division I Colorado State.

After a contest against cross-state rival New Mexico Highlands, the Hounds will face Colorado State-Pueblo and Texas A&M-International at the West Texas A&M Pak-a-Sak Tournament.
The Greyhounds’ home opener on November 30 will also be their LSC opener, against UT-Permian Basin. The two-game home stand will conclude with a game against the defending NCAA Division II South Central Region Champion, West Texas A&M.

A three-game road trip to Texas A&M-Commerce, Tarleton State, and St. Mary’s will follow. On December 30, ENMU will open a three-game home stand against 2014-15 NCAA Champion Lubbock Christian, before they return to LSC play against Western New Mexico and Texas Woman’s.

After a quick two-game road trip to Cameron and Midwestern State, the Hounds will return home for a big week. On Thursday, January 18, the Greyhounds will look to avenge their LSC Tournament setback to Texas A&M-Kingsville, before they host 2016-17 co-LSC Champion Angelo State.

As January winds down, Eastern will visit West Texas A&M, after they earned their first road-win over the Lady Buffs last season since 1981. The road swing will conclude at UT-Permian Basin. After a home stand against Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Commerce, the Hounds will have four of their last six games on the road. A home stand against Midwestern State and Cameron will be sandwiched between trips to Western New Mexico/Texas Woman’s and Angelo State/Texas A&M-Kingsville.

In March, the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament will be played at the Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas.
