Dewayne Steven Thurman, known to most people as “Booger,” was born April 20, 1977 in Clovis, to the home of Vicki (Gilmore) and Mike Thurman, and died very suddenly on Mar. 11, 2017 in Austin, TX. Booger grew up in Elida and graduated from Elida High School in 1996. He was an outstanding athlete, and was named as an All State in Basketball. He also ran the 100 yard dash in track, and competed in the long jump. He played baseball from the time he was in Little League, and was able to play one year in high school. As an adult, he enjoyed coaching Pee Wee Basketball in Elida. He was a member of the Floyd Baptist Church.
Following high school he worked as a welder, but Dewayne wanted to be a “Bull Hauler” from the time he was a little boy. For the past twenty years he drove cattle trucks, living in various places in Texas and Oklahoma.
In addition to driving trucks, Booger enjoyed building and racing cars. He was a fun loving man, who always enjoyed a good joke, or pulling a prank on a friend.
He is survived by his mother, Vicki Thurman of Amarillo; his father and step-mother, Mike and Nancy Thurman of Las Cruces, NM; his son, Justin of Colorado City, TX; a brother, Chad Thurman of Amarillo; four sisters, Kelli Thurman of Amarillo, Ashlee Thurman of Portales, Missy Turnquist of Monmouth, IL and Debbie Hervol of Las Cruces, NM; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews.
