ENMU-Portales to Hold Veterans Day Ceremony on Nov. 11

Eastern New Mexico University in Portales will hold a Veterans Day Celebration on Monday, November 11. Events are scheduled from 11:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Pecos Room of the Campus Union.

At 11:45 a.m., Dr. Robert Schneider, Army veteran, will lead ENMU in the National Roll Call. The National Roll Call project is a national grassroots effort to make Veterans Day on every campus a special time of appreciation and reflection. The National Roll Call will feature a nationwide, simultaneous “minute of silence” at noon. Dr. Schneider will conduct a roll call of over 300 names of current and former ENMU students who have served in our armed services. Huie Brown, Air Force veteran and ENMU staff member, will be the guest speaker.

At 1 p.m., Dr. Janet Birkey will deliver a presentation entitled, “PTSD: From Hell to Hope.” This presentation seeks to raise awareness, not only of the reality and impact of PTSD, but of the modern science being used to provide true healing and recovery from PTSD.

At 2 p.m., the ENMU Office of Multicultural Affairs will host a presentation from guest author Karen Glinski. She will be talking about her book “Badge of Honor,” which focuses on a young boy’s journey and encounter with a Navajo Code Talker.
