Gary Ross Obituary
Gary George Ross was born September 30,1946 in Portales to George and Maudie (Bural) Ross. Gary passed on the evening of May 24, 2026 surrounded by his wife Teresa, children Jamie, Forrest and Rebecca as well as all his grandchildren Lyrah, Damian, Matilda, Mykah and Chloe.
All of Gary’s school years were spent in Dora where he was an athlete in multiple sports and was also a member of FFA. He served 6 years in the National Guard, enlisting while still in high school.
After one semester of college, Gary decided he was more of a farmer than a scholar and he purchased his first farm. He farmed his entire life and was known for his stewardship of the land. Many called on Gary for advice regarding farming practices.
While he continued to farm, Gary went to work for Moorman Manufacturing selling livestock supplements and then moved into a management position. He worked with Moorman Mfg. for 27 years. He also partnered in several other businesses and created others including two that to this day include his family. He was proud to have his children as business partners and he taught them well.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his infant sister Ermal Lavelle and sister Peggy Victor. His deep, booming voice will be greatly missed by his wife, children and grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends.
The family is thankful to everyone who helped in this final chapter of his life. A special thanks to Amanda at PRMC radiology for her expertise in scheduling to fit Gary’s needs. Also, the Presbyterian Hospice team, especially Jennifer and Mackenzie who gave care to Gary and guidance to his family.
If you knew Gary, you knew he was a storyteller. It’s likely too that you have a “Gary story”, more than likely a funny one, to tell. The family invites you to share your story at his memorial service which will be held at Wheeler Mortuary in Portales on June 6th at 10 a.m. with Pastor Don Thomas officiating.
