PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Men’s Basketball Head Coach Brent Owen has announced the addition of Greg Johnson to the ENMU Men’s Basketball roster. Johnson joins the program from Connors State College, competing at the NJCAA Division I level.

With the Cowboys, Johnson helped the team capture a NJCAA Region 2 Championship in 2022, and make an appearance in the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament. The 6’4″ guard played in 31 games for Connors with 10 starts, including making the starting five in his final nine games with the program.

“Greg will be one of the strongest guards in the league at 6’4″, 215lbs. He is a proven winner. He was a starter for his junior college team this year as they won 28 games and made a trip to the national tournament in Hutchinson, Kan.,” said Owen. “He also led his high school team to a state championship game. Greg has been a consistent threat from the three-point line throughout his career and uses his strength well to finish around the rim,” said Owen. “He is tough and we believe his best days are ahead of him here in Portales. Greg has graduated with his associate’s degree and will be pursuing his bachelor’s degree at ENMU,” said Owen.

Before suiting up for the Cowboys, Johnson played one season at Seward County Community College. The Little Rock, Ark. native played for Little Rock Hall High School, averaging 19 points per game, five rebounds per game, and six assists per game. Johnson received All-State honors twice, along with Coke Classic MVP, and EAT Summer Championship MVP accolades while at Little Rock Hall.

With Johnson joining the team, the ENMU Men’s Basketball recruiting class now reaches six signings, along with Jose Murillo, Dwayne Chester, Malique Oates, Grehlon Easter, and Alex Bossinakis. Owen and his staff completed their first season in 2021-22 after the Hounds missed out on the 2020-21 season.
