NMCIA welcomes Los Alamos County as a new member of the Workers’ Compensation program and welcomes the return of Santa Fe County

SANTA FE, NM – Effective July 1, 2022,NMCIA will provide workers’ compensation coverage to 32 of New Mexico’s 33 counties for the 2022-23 policy year. 

NMCIA welcomes Los Alamos County to the NMCIA self-insurance pool, with their participation in the workers’ compensation coverage program. Los Alamos County has purchased cyber liability coverage from the Pool since July 1, 2020 but has not formerly joined any of the three coverage programs since inception of the Pool.

“We are very happy to welcome Los Alamos County to the Pool and look forward to handling their workers’ compensation claims and providing the county with cost-saving programs such as our 24-hour nurse triage program and our comprehensive online training portal that helps members reduce risks,” said Board Chair Lance Pyle. “We also welcome Santa Fe County back to the workers’ compensation program for this policy year.”

For the third year in a row, the NMCIA board of directors has voted to give a contribution discount to existing workers’ compensation members, this year reducing contributions by 25%, saving members $1.9 million.

NMCIA is a county insurance pool that provides coverage for workers’ compensation, property, liability, and law enforcement for member counties. As of February 28, 2022, the Pool has a financial net position of approximately $56.6 million that includes the current year Pool net position of $23.1 million. The pool has offered workers’ compensation coverage to New Mexico counties since 1987, property and liability since 1989 and law enforcement liability since 1995.
