With the 2017 season just weeks away, the Eastern New Mexico University cross country teams expect to do great things under new Head Coach Jeff Kavalunas. Fellow members of the Lone Star Conference agreed with those expectations, as the Greyhound teams earned strong positions in the league’s preseason poll, released Thursday afternoon.

ENMU’s women’s cross country team was chosen to repeat as the number-two team in the LSC. The men’s team was tied for fourth.

Mercy Rotich returns from last year after the Greyhound women earned the runner-up position in the LSC for the second straight season. The defending Conference Runner of the Year won the regional title last season and is rejoined by Coley Norcross, the eighth-place finisher at the LSC Championships.

Marcel Skalecki’s 13th-place finish at last year’s league championships paced the ENMU men to a fourth-place finish at the LSC Championship meet. Also returning is Garrett Meyer (17th in LSC).

The Eastern New Mexico University cross country teams will open their season on Saturday, September 9, at the Texas Tech University Open.
