In her adult years, she married George Walker and moved to Yuma AZ, where she had two children and became the manager of the Health Department for Yuma County. In 1966, she and her family moved back to California and continued living on horse ranches. As an adult Helen went back to school to become a special education teacher. She taught at Murrieta School District for more than 25 years before she retired to New Mexico to live with her daughter, son in law and their children on their dairy farm.

In New Mexico, she made a life for herself volunteering at her church, St. Helen’s in Portales, tutoring children in the community and being an integral part of her family’s life.  Helen’s hobbies included reading books, going to the beach, life long learner, and watching the wildlife at her home in the country.
