PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico volleyball team lost by a final score of 3-0 (23-25, 12-25, 16-25) to Angelo State inside Greyhound Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds fall to 2-8 on the season and finish the opening weekend of Lone Star Conference play with a record of 0-2. Senior Christelle Kialanda finished with an attack percentage of .235 for the afternoon with six kills on 17 swings to lead the way offensively for the Hounds.

Eastern New Mexico had a match-high 14 kills in the opening set to keep it storm back from a 16-9 deficit early in the match. A block from Eastern’s Lauryn Bresnahan and Adriana Puni tied the match up at 18-18 to bring the match square for the first time since the 4-4 mark.

The opening set remained tight all the way to the 21-21 mark before Angelo State rattled off four out of the next six points to take the 25-23 win. Set number two saw an evenly matched early portion of the set get blown open by the Belles as they led by as many as 20-9 to eventually finish off the Hounds by a final of 25-to-12.

Eastern New Mexico continued to fight and opened up a 10-7 lead to begin the third set. Angelo State answered with four straight points to jump back ahead 11-10 before a service error for the Belles and a service ace from senior Sarah Tuioti-Mariner regained the lead for Eastern.

The Hounds were unable to force a fourth set however, as Angelo State rattled off five straight points and then pulled away for a 25-16 third set victory.

Redshirt sophomore M’Lee Vinson totaled 14 digs for the Hounds to lead the way defensively along with Tuioti-Mariner and junior Jasmine Gannon, who each totaled 12 digs for the match.
