I appreciate the vote of confidence at the last City Council meeting
from the Ward B City Councilor. I also appreciate the nice
comments to me by Ward A Councilor. The comments by the Ward
D Councilor, however, exemplify how not to govern in a forward
thinking community.

To imply that 3 new incoming councilors lacked the ‘experienceʼ to
name a temporary mayor was an insult to not only them but to
everyone that voted for them and our community at large. The role
of Mayor, in a weak mayor system, is primarily ceremonial and these
gentlemen should have been given the opportunity for input in this
governing action.

To cite your own ‘experienceʼ as a superior qualification was
laughable and left no doubt it was planned in advance, well
rehearsed and reeked of ‘good olʼ boyʼ stench. Your ‘experienceʼ
has led us to the mess we are in regarding 5 simultaneous water
crisis, budget problems, an empty multi million dollar fire station,
dead parks, a struggling cemetery, destroyed city property (softball
complex), an effluent 30 million dollar water system that is
dysfunctional, alley trash, street problems, animal control issues, a
senior center hanging by a thread and employee shortages in
general.

These 3 new councilors joined together, Republican and Democrat,
on the promise of ‘time for changeʼ and the change that is both
needed and desired glowed in the dark on that night.
