Obituary

Funeral services for Jackie Fulton, age 79, of Portales, will be held at 2:00 PM, Sat., Oct. 15, 2022 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Don Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Ricky Lovato, Jr., Brandon Lovato, Randy Lovato, Marc Lovato, Ben Rice and Rocky Sharp serving as pallbearers.

Jackie Ray Fulton was born Jan. 8, 1943 in Lubbock, TX to the home of Minnie Mae (Brown) and Andrew Jackson Fulton, and died early on the morning of October 11, 2022 in Lubbock, TX. Jackie attended school in Morton, TX and later in the Portales schools. He was a 1961 graduate of Portales High School. At first, he worked with his father as a custom harvester and fertilizer contractor. Eventually, Jackie established Fulton Custom Fertilizer, Inc. In addition, he continued to do custom harvesting, and also owned a caliche pit for a season. He had been retired since 2008.

On Jan. 15, 1971 in Portales, he was married to Marilyn Elaine Roff. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing racquet ball and going to the tractor pulls. As a hobby, he collected classic model cars.

He is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 51 years of their home; two sons, Jerry Fulton of Clovis and Raymond Fulton and wife, Jodi of Portales; a daughter, Renee Lovato and husband, Ricky of Portales; nine grandchildren, Katherine and Ben Rice, Ricky (Jessica) Lovato, Jr., Amanda Lovato, Brandon (Shereya) Lovato, Randy Lovato, marc (Kinsey) Lovato, Sarah Lovato, Haley Lovato and Electra; and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Raymond Fulton who died as a small child and a sister, Wanda Mae Turner who died Feb. 9, 2020.
