Born in Longs, New Mexico on September 8, 1922 to Oscar and Bettie Long. Josephine grew up in Portales, New Mexico and lived most of her adult life in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She died on March 9, 2017 in Dallas, Texas.
Husband Kenneth St. Peters, her parents, her brother Thomas Vernon Long (WW II), her sisters Grace Kent, Essie Long, Inez McCane, and Faye Tisdale and her grandson, Terry St. Peters preceded Josephine in death. Her children Tommy St. Peters, Julia St. Peters Boyce and Kathy St. Peters Price, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren survive her. Josephine’s sister Jean Sawyer survives her as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Josephine bravely endured a disabling accident at the age of 5 relearning to walk and do everything everyone else did but with a limp. She lived her life faithfully and fully serving her country during WWII repairing damaged fighter planes, teaching 3-year-olds in Sunday school for over 20 years at First Baptist Church in Carlsbad, New Mexico and working in the Carlsbad school cafeterias as a cook. She was a member of the Rebekahs.
Josephine leaves behind a legacy of love and faithfulness to a family who adored her and will miss her terribly. We give thanks that by the grace of God she lived and loved for 94 years.
