Obituary

Graveside services for Leslie Mullins, 66, of Rogers, NM will be held at 10:00 AM, Sat.. Jan. 22, 2022 in the Mt. Zion Cemetery with Dean Turvaville officiating.

Leslie Mullins was born May 10, 1955 in Portales to the home of Erba Sue (Patterson) and Robert Bunk Skinner and died at her home in Rogers, NM early on the morning of Jan. 14, 2022.  She was a 1973 graduate of Portales High School.  Leslie worked with her family at Skinners Western Wear for several years.  On Dec. 31, 1975 in Conejos, CO she was married to Jimmy D. Mullins.  She and Jimmy worked side by side in their farming and ranching operation in the Rogers community until her death.  They thoroughly enjoyed being together, working, camping, hiking or just enjoying a quiet evening.

Leslie was a natural born artist.  She produced beautiful artwork in virtually every medium – oils, water color, chalk, pencil, etc.  Leslie painted on canvas, leather and various other surfaces.  She had been recognized by New Mexico Magazine for her artwork, and she was even offered a gallery position just off the Plaza in Santa Fe.  For several years she was active in the Alto Art Tier.

Leslie loved people, no matter their station in life.  She was accepting of everyone.  During her mother’s last illness, she spent so much time with her at the Nursing Home, that people thought she worked there.  Leslie was also an animal lover, and the wildlife on their ranch trusted her completely.  She had a daily routine of feeding deer, quail, and rabbits.  Each day there would be 60 to 80 quail that would come to be fed, along with any number of deer and rabbits.

She is survived by Jimmy, her husband of just over 46 years of their home; six grandchildren, Cash, Keira, Taos, Trinity, Timber and Dawson; two brothers, San Skinner and Jon Skinner both of Portales; and a sister, Dee Flynn of Denton, TX.  She was preceded in death by both of her parents, and by her only son, Justin Mullins who died Nov. 21, 2021.
