RICHARDSON, Texas – Coming off a pair of strong performances against No. 14 West Texas A&M and Texas Woman’s, sophomore forward Alivia Lewis from the ENMU women’s basketball team earned the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week Award for the second consecutive week.
It was the third time this season that Lewis won the LSC Defensive Player of the Week Award and is currently the only player in the entire conference to receive the defensive award more than once.
Despite the Hounds suffering a 72-61 loss at home to the Lady Buffs last week, Lewis recorded a career-high 15 rebounds and finished just a point shy of a double-double to go with a pair of blocked shots. It was Lewis’ 10th game this season where she finished with 10 or more rebounds.
Lewis followed it up with another record-setting game in Eastern’s 79-78 win over Texas Woman’s. The Albuquerque, N.M. native recorded a career-high six blocked shots, five of which came in the first half. The six-block performance tied Johna McClelland and Precious Herrin’s program record for the most blocks in a single game in the last 20 years.
Against the Pioneers, Lewis had a strong offensive performance as well, tying a career-high 14 points to go with eight rebounds.
Heading into the week, Lewis is currently the top rebounder in the LSC with 176 rebounds and is averaging 9.8 rebounds per game. She has been even better on the boards in Lone Star Conference games, averaging 10.6 rpg. Lewis is also one of the top shot blockers in the conference with 36 total blocks at a two blocks per game clip, Lewis is currently the second-best shot blocker in the LSC.
The Greyhounds will be back in-action this Thursday as Eastern will travel to Lawton, Okla. for a 4:30 p.m.match at Cameron before heading to Wichita Falls, Texas to take on MSU Texas at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
