Nettie Griffin Obituary
With heavy hearts, the family of Nettie Mae Griffin announces her passing at her home in Clovis, New Mexico, on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the age of 66. She had been facing ongoing health challenges related to renal failure in recent years.
Nettie was born on December 31, 1959, in Seminole, Texas, to the late Gladys and Melvin Griffin. Raised in Portales, New Mexico, Nettie was the 11th of thirteen children, growing up in a large family that helped shape her resilience and spirit.
After earning her GED in Portales, she continued her education with determination, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with honors from Eastern New Mexico University on May 8, 1981, followed by a Master of Arts degree from Eastern New Mexico University on May 13, 1983. She later earned her law degree in Denver, Colorado.
On October 26, 1986, she welcomed the love of her life, her only child, Jordan Lamar Griffin-Morgan, who remained the greatest love of her life.
Nettie faced personal hardships throughout her life, including the profound loss of her son, Jordan, an experience that deeply shaped the years that followed. She found love and connection in her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, loving them deeply and treasuring the time they spent together.
Nettie was known for speaking her truth without hesitation, a trait that defined both her strength and her individuality.
Many may not have known that Nettie was also a gifted writer of poetry. Her words were deep, honest, and reflective, revealing a quieter, more introspective side of her. Her writing carried a depth of emotion and truth that was both powerful and unforgettable.
She is preceded in death by both her parents, Gladys and Melvin Griffin; her son, Jordan Lamar Griffin-Morgan; five brothers, JC, Charles, Earnest, Gary, and Aeron Griffin; and five sisters, Doris Helen Forester, Lorene, Necia, Betty, and Charlene Griffin.
Nettie leaves behind to cherish her memory her sisters, Freddie (Willie) Douglas, Rebecca (Mitch) Wood, and Denise (Tom) Metzger, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
