Santa Fe, NM – The Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resources Department (ENMRD) State Parks Division announces the 30-day public review period for the for the Pecos Canyon State Park Draft Management Plan is now open.

The Draft Management Plan can be viewed online here through September 17, 2023. Comments and questions may be submitted by email to Park Planner Joseph Flemming at joseph.fleming@emnrd.nm.gov or by phone at 505-469-6317. Interested parties can also provide input during a public meeting on August 31, 2023.

The Pecos Canyon State Park Management Plan provides guidance on the management and development of the park over a five-year period through 2028. The Management Plan describes and provides assessments of existing conditions at the park and recommendations for its management.

Management plans are intended to assist State Parks in planning for both short- and long-range program development and capital improvement projects, and function as a:

  • Tool to guide decisions and management;
  • Reference that documents park history, facts, and conditions;
  • Tool for identifying land use within a park’s boundary; and
  • Guide to capital improvements recommendations.

The Pecos Canyon State Park Draft Management Plan will be presented during a public meeting on Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Village of Pecos Municipal Building Conference Room on 92 South Main St, Pecos, NM 87552. Comments and questions may be submitted before the meeting to joseph.fleming@emnrd.nm.gov or by phone at 505-469-6317.

The Draft Management Plan is also available for review in advance at: 1) the Pecos Canyon State Park office (located at 26 Fish Hatchery Rd., Pecos, NM 87552), 2) the State Parks Division main office at 1220 South St. Francis Dr., Santa Fe NM 87505, or 3) on the ENMRD website at https://www.emnrd.nm.gov/spd/park-plans/.
