The Portales Rams hosted Lovington on November 1 at 7 pm for their last game of the regular season, and to claim the district championship title.

The first quarter of the game started out uneventful with turnovers on downs back and forth for both the Rams and Wildcats. By the end of the quarter however, both teams had scored. Portales was on top 14-7 thanks to a touchdown towards the last minute of the quarter by Kellan Hightower (#3).

The Rams added a passing touchdown in the 2nd quarter and the teams went into halftime with the scoreboard showing 21 Portales – 7 Lovington.

Portales received the kickoff in the 3rd quarter, and drove the ball down the field in just 2 minutes, and added another 7 to their score, beginning what would be a dominating showing.

By the 4th, Portales was up 35-7. Lovington added one more touchdown to their score, but missed the extra point after. And the game ended with Portales on top 35-14. The win sealed their district championship title,

The Rams’ regular season ended with a record of 9-1, and they were 3-0 in district. Their sights are now set on the first round of the state playoffs. The Rams are ranked #2 in NMAA Class 4A and will play next weekend for their first state matchup. Details and times TBD.
