The Portales Rams hosted Curry County opponent, Texico Wolverines, for a non-district game on January 7, 2020. The two teams struggled to keep the lead the entire game. Scores went back and forth as Texico would score with Portales matching it, and the Rams scoring with Texico matching. By the end of 1, Texico was up 16-15, but by halftime, the score was tied 31-All. This left both teams vying for the win, and nearly matched each other point by point in the 3rd period where Texico took the lead 46-45, and despite Portales’ efforts, they couldn’t scrape by with a win by the end of the 4th.
Both teams scored 11 points in the last period of the game, leaving Portales with a devastating loss by only 1 point. It was a game of back and forth, and both teams played well. Texico did win though with a final score of 58-57, and Portales is now 5-6 this season.
