Ruben Calderon-Avita April 29, 1959 ~ September 23, 2026 (age 67)

Funeral services for Ruben Calderon-Avita, 67, of Portales, will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 2, 2026 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Portales with Pastor Arthuro Villa officiating, assisted by Pastor Raul Ornelas.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Elias Calderon, Zarian Banister, Diego Hernandez, Ayreli Calderon, Israel Caldron, Zaven Banister, Oswaldo Calderon and Zayley Banister serving as pallbearers.  All other family members and his many friends will be honorary pallbearers.

Ruben Calderon-Avita was born April 29, 1959, in Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico to Petra Avita and Ruben Calderon, and passed from this life on Sept. 23, 2026.  Ruben came to the United States as a young man, and began working at various ranches and dairies in Eastern New Mexico.  For the past 41 years, he has made his home in Portales, working on dairies as a milk hand.  He enjoyed singing, and had made a cd of his vocals.  On June 6, 1985 in Fort Sumner, he was married to Gloria Sanchez.  He was a member of Cristo Es La Puerta Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria of their home; a son and daughter-in-law, Elias and Claudia Calderon of Portales; and a daughter and son-in-law, Yecenia and Armando Banister of Lovington, NM; as well as numerous other family members.
