Obituary

Memorial services for Shirley Ann Faver will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Emanuel Baptist Church in Portales with Rev. Josh Faucett officiating.

Shirley Ann (Hurd) Faver went to be with our Lord and Savior on September 26, 2023. She was born January 31, 1941, in Canon City, Colorado to Ralph and Elsie Hurd. She graduated in 1959 from Canon City High School and attended Colorado State University majoring in foreign language. It was there that she met George Allen Faver and they married July 16, 1961. George and Shirley were married for 57 years.

Shirley spent over 32 years teaching Junior High and High School Language Arts, Spanish, and French in New Mexico and Kansas. She was a passionate teacher who loved seeing her students succeed. After retiring, she continued her love of teaching and love of Christ leading numerous Bible study classes. Shirley had a big heart, a beautiful smile and enjoyed people.

Shirley and George loved to travel the United States, often taking their grandchildren. They traveled to Alaska, Yellowstone National Park, the Smokey Mountains, Mount Rushmore, and many more states and parks.

Shirley is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Kim Faver of Portales, two daughters and sons-in-law, Betsy and Dale Briscoe of Fort Stockton, TX and Randi and Kirk Holzmeister of Monument, KS, seven grandchildren: Dr. Kyra (Dustin) Perry  of Forney, TX, Mason (Haley) Briscoe of Carrollton, TX, Tanner (Taylor) Faver of Portales, Casey (Sydnie) Faver of Artesia, Lane Faver of Portales, Shyanne (Chris) Holzmeister of Oakley, KS, and Cole (Chelsey) Holzmeister of Oakley, KS and five great-grandchildren; Ian Griggs, Kenzie Griggs, Tate Faver, Billie Briscoe and Ashley Perry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Elsie Hurd, husband, George Faver and a granddaughter Mackenzie Holzmeister.
