Stella Mildred (Turney) Henley February 10, 1945 ~ September 28, 2026 (age 81)

Stella (Turney) Henley passed on September 28, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on February 10,1945 in Clovis, NM to Charley and Thelma (Turnbough) Turney, Stella lived a long and meaningful life rooted in faith, family, friends, and hard work.

Stella met her first husband, Jim Peugh through her cousin while he was stationed at Cannon AFB in Clovis, NM. They were married in 1965 in Portales, NM and moved to Landstuhl, Germany, where Jim was stationed with the Air force, the same year. At the end of Jim’s time in Germany, they returned to the states in 1967 and lived in Oklahoma for a short period before relocating to Charlotte, MI.

In 1972, they moved to Blackwell, OK, where she made her home with Jim until 1985. She was employed by Equity Insurance 1975-1981, Blackwell, OK, Conoco Oil Co. 1981-1985, Ponca City, OK.  In 1985, they returned to Portales, NM where Stella worked for Valley Furniture and remained after Jim’s death in 1990.

In 2005, Stella married Jim Henley and moved back to Blackwell, OK where they remained until his death in 2014. After Jim’s passing, Stella moved to Perkins, OK to be near her son, Chris. Stella made her final move to Kentucky in 2022 to be near her daughter, Lori.

Stella enjoyed watching baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and the Detroit Tigers. She also enjoyed crocheting, reading her Bible daily, and collecting angels. She loved Stargazer Lillies, playing cards and watching old western movies.

Stella was a 1963 graduate of Portales High, Portales, NM.

Stella will be remembered for her God-loving spirit, her kind heart, and her gift for storytelling about both her childhood and family history. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

Stella was preceded in death by her husbands, Jim Peugh, and Jim Henley; her parents, Charley and Thelma Thurney; sisters Charlene Durrett, Etta Fern Turney, Geraldine Ann Turney; and brother, Jay Turney.

She is survived by her daughter, Lori Waldrop (Bob) of Taylorsville, KY; her son, Chris Peugh (Vickie) of Guthrie, OK; extended children, Cindy Mathis (Mike) of Krum, TX; and Keith Henley (Scarlet) of Tulsa, OK; brother-in-law, Tom Durrett of Portales, NM; Nephews, Dr. Robin Durrett (Sharla); Major (Ret) Jim Durrett (Ann); Grandchildren, Brittany Jenkins (Josh) of Taylorsville, KY;  Brooke Thomas (Chas) of Taylorsville, KY; Isabella  Peugh of Guthrie, OK; extended grandchildren, Jenny Collum (Brad) of Mendon, LA; Shelby Mayo (Dale) of Shreveport, LA; Emma Kate (Blake) Chrismer of St. Louis, MO; Zac Henley of Stillwater, OK and 8 great-grandchildren.
