PORTALES, N.M. – Senior Paul Terry of Eastern New Mexico football has been named the GoEasternAthletics.com November Athlete of the Month.

Terry capped off a historic season in the final three games of the season for the Greyhounds with an average of 162.7 yards rushing in those games and a total of six rushing touchdowns. As voted upon by Eastern New Mexico coaches and athletic department staff, Terry becomes the third winner of the award this season after Wyatt Strand from football and Desiree Morgas from women’s soccer were tabbed the September and October Athletes of the Month.

The Amarillo, Texas kicked off the first of three games during the month of November for the Hounds with 24 carries for 158 yards and a touchdown against UT Permian Basin on Nov. 2nd before piecing together arguably his best performance of the season in the Hound’s upset win over #21 Angelo State on Nov. 9th. Terry matched the single game record he set earlier in the season with 40 carries for 233 yards and a touchdown and broke E’lon Spight’s single season rushing record from 2014 in the process.
He was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season for his performance against the Rams after leading the Greyhounds to a 20-17 overtime win.

Terry finished off the regular season by leading the Hounds to their seventh win of the season on the road against Western Oregon with a career-high four rushing touchdowns and finished the year with a school record 324 attempts for 1,778 yards and 14 touchdowns. He was named an All-Lone Star Conference First Team selection and a D2CCA All-Super Region Four Second Team selection for his efforts this season.

He was also one of just 36 players across the country to be nominated for the 2019 Harlon Hill Award as Division II football’s Most Valuable Player.

Terry will lead a Greyhound offense that is just 164 yards shy of matching the previous highest single season team rushing total into the 2019 Heritage Bowl on Dec. 7th at 11 a.m. against Southern Arkansas in Corsicana, Texas. Terry will surely be a vital part of the Hounds continued historic offensive efforts as they rank fifth in school history with 4,802 offensive yards for the season.
