Obituary

Memorial services for Timothy Haverland, 55, of Phoenix, AZ will be held at 10:00 AM, Thurs., July 1, 2021in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Scott Reeves officiating.  Bobby Church, David Allen, Thomas Benford and Cody Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Timothy John Haverland was born Nov. 14, 1965 in San Diego, CA to the home of Billie Lorraine (Walz) and Richard Allen Haverland, and died early on the morning of June 16, 2021 near Gallup, NM as the result of a traffic accident.  At a very young age, Tim came to live with his father and step-mother in Portales.  He was a 1983 graduate of Portales High School where he played football.  His coach said that he was an excellent player, but that his one fault was that he wouldn’t stop smiling at the opposing team.

In 1986, he joined the US Army, and served in both Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm.  Following his discharge in 1995, Tim went to diving school and became an underwater welder.  Even though he worked in a very dangerous career, he received a serious injury when he was hit from behind in a pickup at work.  His spinal injury resulted in his inability to continue in his job.  He was eventually able to work as a building inspector in the San Francisco Bay area.  However, eventually he was forced into an early retirement due to his declining health.  Tim was an outdoorsman, and loved to go camping in the mountains with his dogs. At one time, he even panned for gold in northern California.  He also enjoyed playing video games.  For some time he had been living with his brother, Matt, in Phoenix, AZ.

He is survived by his children, Lia (Brennon) Hockley, Ty (Shayla) Haverland, Stephano Haverland, Kirsten Haverland and Madison Haverland; his father, Richard Haverland; four brothers, Richard (Lynn) Haverland, Jr., Matthew Saavedra, L. C. (Juwana) Baxter, and Kenneth (Amy) Haverland; three sisters, Toni (Barry) Oringer, Sandra (Steve) Turner and Tammy (Dave) Hunton; two grandchildren, Lilly and Fonn Haverland; both of his former wives, Elaine Wise and Marlena Ramirez; as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Billie Saavedra and his step-mother, Vivian Haverland as well as all four of his grandparents.
