The Eastern New Mexico track & field programs competed at the Don Kirby Tailwind Open at the University of New Mexico on Thursday.

Tamia Smith earned a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 12.80 meters (42-0). Her throw was also second in the program record books. She now owns four of the top five program records in the shot put. Smith then finished sixth in the discus with a throw of 36.40 meters (119-5).

In the javelin, Jessica Campbell finished eighth with a distance of 34.48 meters (113-1). Campbell earned seventh in the high jump (1.55 meters, 5-1) and 11th in the 100-meter hurdles (16.20 seconds) which was good for third in program history.

Malethabo Seema picked up a sixth-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.13.

On the men’s side in the 800-meter, Dan Hurren took 10th place (1:59.42).

In the 400-meter hurdles, Torisha LaForce crossed in 1:09.83 for sixth place.

Aminata Kenyawani and Mercy Rotich earned sixth and seventh in the 5,000-meter run with times of 18:53.07 and 19:09.02, respectively.

In the men’s 5,000-meter, Kelvin Kipkemboi finished in 15:54.53, which was good for 10th place.

The Greyhounds are back in action April 30-May 1 at the Texas Tech Corky/Crofoot Shootout.
