Obituary

A private family memorial observance will be held in memory of Violet Dobbins, 95 of Clovis.

Violet Iola Dobbins was born Jan. 3, 1927 at St. Vrain, NM to the home of Nettie Iola (Turner) and John Franklin Depuy, and died on the evening of Dec. 2, 2022 at the home of her son in Clovis.  Mrs. Dobbins attended school at Black Tower, a community that was originally where Cannon Air Force Base is located.  She later attended school in Portales, Clovis and finally in Floyd where she attended her Junior and Senior years.  On Christmas Eve 1944 in St. Vrain, she was married to Jackie Dobbins.  After her husband was discharged from the Navy due to an injury, they moved to Clovis where they began buying and selling cattle.  She worked right along side of her husband, even sometimes driving the cattle truck.

Their first son, Donnie was born five years later, and their second son, Billy was born eight years later.  For 22 years she was employed in the Dietary Kitchen of first Clovis Memorial Hospital, and later the Presbyterian Regional Medical Center.  She was a member of the 16th and Pile Church of Christ in Clovis and was an active in her Ladies’ Sunday School Class.  She was very devoted to her family.  Violet enjoyed watching the horses that they had and doing yard work.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jackie “Donnie” Dobbins, Jr. and his wife, Phyllis of Clovis; four grandchildren, Jimmy Don Dobbins, Tonya (Bobby) Rogers, Robert Dobbins, and Jackie Schadler; five great-grandchildren, Tyler Rogers, Raquel Rogers, Brooke Rogers, Dyllon Dobbins and Gage Scheidler; one great-great-grandchild, Jace Rogers; a daughter-in-law, Diane Dobbins of Oklahoma City, OK; two sisters-in-law, Falba (Mrs. Leon) Depuy of Lovington, NM and Ramona (Dobbins) Bailey of Clovis; as well as several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, John Lloyd Depuy and Harold Leon Depuy, a sister, Betty Joyce (Depuy) Bockman, a son, Billy “Bill” Dobbins who died in 2020 and by her husband, Jackie who died Jan. 5, 1995.
