PORTALES, NM – The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2016-17 season after posting a 3.314 GPA in the classroom. The award honors teams that display excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA. The Greyhounds joined Angelo State and Texas Woman’s as the only three Lone Star Conference schools to achieve this prestigious honor.

“Although we offer all the academic resources and guidance to help our players succeed in the classroom, it’s really our kids and their personal drive, positive choices and commitment to excel academically,” ENMU Head Coach Sia Poyer said. “They are certainly proud to represent Greyhound Volleyball positively in the academic realm, but their high academic standards are consistent with their high expectations in their professional lives after college.”

ENMU returns 13 players from last season’s 19-13 squad that posted the best finish since the 2004 season, earning a fourth-place finish in the Lone Star Conference regular season and first win at the LSC Tournament since 2004.

The Hounds open up the season on Fri., Sept. 1, against Wayne State at the Oredigger Classic in Golden, Colo. For the latest news on ENMU Athletics, follow @greyhoundvball and @ENMUAthletics on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram or visit GoEasternAthletics.com.
