Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball program has officially inked high school standout Julia Chavez to its 2019 signing class.
“We are very excited to announce the addition of Julia Chavez to the Greyhound women’s basketball family,” said head coach Josh Prock. “Julia is a young lady with a tremendous amount of ability and will have the chance to make a significant impact in our program for the next four years.”
A native of Rio Rancho, N.M., Chavez is a 5’6″ combo guard that comes to Eastern New Mexico after a highly decorated high school basketball career at Rio Rancho High School. Chavez helped lead the Rams to two 6A District Championships and was an All-District First Team selection as well as a Third Team All-Metro selection.
“Her basketball IQ is something that we liked when we were recruiting her,” said Prock. “She has a strong understanding of the game and is constantly encouraging her teammates. We will be looking forward to her becoming a future leader of our program. She is a great student and an outstanding young lady off the court. We believe she will represent our program in a first class manner.”
On top of her on-court success, Chavez has been highly successful in the classroom, earning District 6A All-Academic Team accolades four consecutive years and graduated in the top 10 of her class.
Chavez is the second signee to join the program for the 2019-20 season after the Hounds signed Taylor Hall during the fall signing period.
