 For the first time in 2022, Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball will host a Lone Star Conference (LSC) game in Greyhound Arena this weekend. The Greyhounds will entertain University of Arkansas-Fort Smith (UAFS) on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 8, with tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m.

Saturday’s game will be broadcast on 105.9 KSEL-FM and KSELCountry.com with Donald “Doc” Elder calling the action. Games will also be broadcast on 106.5 KEND in Roswell and Artesia.

LAST TIME OUT

ENMU enter this weekend’s contest following a 71-43 loss against Texas A&M International University on Friday, Dec. 31, and a 63-51 defeat against Texas A&M University-Kingsville on Sunday, Jan. 2. Iyanna McCurdy shined in both games, finishing with career first double-doubles, scoring 19 points and finding 11 rebounds in each game leading the team in both.

SCOUTING THE HOUNDS

Eastern currently stand at 4-4 on the season and 0-2 in the LSC. The Hounds offense is suppling 56.6 points per game (ppg) and the defense is holding opponents to 62.8 ppg. From the field, ENMU are shooting 36.4%, posting 25.9% from three, and 61.7% at the free throw line. On the boards, Eastern are capturing 38.1 rebounds per game (rpg), posting 8.4 assists per game (apg), collecting 8.3 steals per game (spg), and suppling 2.5 blocks per game (bpg).

Natalie Stice leads the Hounds in scoring and rebounds, posting 11.4 ppg and 5.9 rbg. McCurdy sits in second for both points, 10.4 ppg, and rebounds, 5.3 rpg. Laura Rowe is finding 8.5 ppg, with Kamirah Decker collecting 5.0 rpg. Decker leads the team with 1.0 bpg, while Bella Stone paces the team in assists, 2.0 apg, and steals, 1.8 spg.

Around the conference, Eastern are holding opponents to just 34.1 rpg, which stands in third among LSC teams. Individually, Decker sits in 9th in the conference for blocks, with 1.0 bpg.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION 

University of Arkansas-Fort Smith

The Lady Lions hold a 2-10 record on the season, posting a 0-3 LSC conference standing. Recently, UAFS were beaten 71-34 by Lubbock Christian University on Jan 6.

UAFS pour in 60.0 ppg, while allowing 74.7 ppg. As a group, the Lady Lions hold a field goal percentage of 34.9%, 24.8% from behind-the-arc, and 67.2% from the charity stripe. UAFS grab 37.2 rpg, post 8.9 apg, collect 7.7 spg, and supply 1.3 bpg.

Leading the Lady Lions, Paige Elston is averaging 11.5 ppg, with Ashanti Eden and Mar’Shalia Lollie adding 9.7 ppg and 9.3 ppg, respectively. Lollie is the teams leading rebounder with 7.7 rpg, while Elston find 4.8 rpg.
