10/1/2021 | Cross Country FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Both Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams faced tough competition at the 33rd Annual Chile Pepper Invitational on Friday afternoon. The meet featured top programs from around the nation across all NCAA Divisions. The women’s team supplied a top-half finish, placing 18th of 37 programs at the meet. While the men’s program, finished in 32nd out of 36 teams. The meet was split into four races with the Greyhounds being placed in the fastest heats.

In the Women’s College 5K run, Aminata Kenyawaniwas the fastest Greyhound out of the field of 322 runners. Kenyawani’s time of 18.24.8, finished in 89th place for the top Eastern runner. Kenyawani was the fastest LSC runner in their heat, and second fastest LSC runner in the whole event. Dorcas Kosgei was next to cross for ENMU, with a 18:39.0 mark to finish in 115th place.

Marta Pascoa and Neri Getraide both finished within the top half of the race. Pascoa clocked a seasons best time of 18.44.6 on a 5K course, to finish in 118th. Getraide notched a time of 18:50.1, fast enough for 133rd place. As a team, the women’s program finished as the top LSC school in their heat.

Kelvin Kipkemboi pulled out a time of 25.16.7 for the McDonnell Memorial College Men’s 8K, landing in 55th place of the 327-runner field. Kipkemboi was the fastest runner of any LSC school at the meet, while competing in a field that showed Division I programs such as Nebraska, LSU, and hosts Arkansas.

Sylvestre Kibara and Japhet Toroitich were the next Greyhounds to finish. Kibara clocked a time of 26:38.7, landing in 173rd place, while Torioitich paced the race with a time of 26:56.9, for 200thplace.

Eastern now prepare for their final tune up before the 2021 Lone Star Conference Championships. The Hounds will race at the LCU Region Preview on the campus of Lubbock Christian University, in Lubbock, Texas. The men’s race is set to begin at 7:30 a.m., with the women’s race following at 8:15 a.m.
