Welcome to our September Newsletter

Fall is here! That means cooler weather and the start of a busy holiday season.

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. It’s a quiet cancer… one with symptoms that are often missed. See below to learn more about it and what the symptoms are.

And speaking of cancer, we are pairing up with Taco Box again this year. They will be donating 10% of the proceeds from their pink chip sales and their pink mug sales to our breast cancer fund. This year, we will be having the mugs for sale in our office as well!

Thanks to everyone who came out to say good bye to Dr. Alexander. We bet he might be sneaking back in the office from time to time to give us a hand.

We have been saddened by the loss of one of our long-time ultrasound specialists… Twilla Kos. Many of you may have known her in your time with us. We are keeping her forever in our hearts.

And to brighten up your day a little, check out our Pet Parade for Fall.

Ovarian Cancer – Learn More

Ovarian cancer is a disease in which, depending on the type and stage of the disease, cancerous cells are found inside, near, or on the outer layer of the ovaries.

The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be over 22,280 new cases of ovarian cancer diagnosed this year and that more than 14,240 women will die from ovarian cancer this year.

When one is diagnosed and treated in the earliest stages, the five-year survival rate is over 90 percent. Due to ovarian cancer’s non-specific symptoms and lack of early detection tests, about 20 percent of all cases are found early, meaning in stage I or II. If caught in stage III or higher, the survival rate can be as low as 28 percent.

Go Pink with Taco Box and Women’s Medical Center!

Think Pink1

Taco Box is turning pink for Breast Cancer Awareness in October and we’re joining in!

Taco Box is donating 10% of all proceeds from any item with pink chips, and any sale of a pink refillable mug, to Women’s Medical Center, to help with with cancer-related costs.

You can help the cause by purchasing a pink refillable mug or a stainless steel special edition mug from Taco Box, or enjoying any items with pink chips.

Women’s Medical Center will have the mugs for sale at our facility as well!

Pink Taco Box check

Last year Taco Box raised $1327.81 from their Pink October. That money was matched by WMC and used to assist cancer patients with gas money and incidental expenses should they need to travel out of town for treatments.

So not only do you get a fun pink mug that supports women with breast cancer, but refills are only 79 cents – and that’s the best deal in town!

Twilla Kos

Farewell, Dear Twilla

At Women’s Medical Center, we are saddened over the loss of our friend and colleague, Twilla Kos.

Twilla was an integral part of the WMC family for years as an ultrasonographer. She was full of life, tenacious, with a big beautiful smile. And most of all, she was passionate about her job and the women and babies of our practice.

She will forever hold a special place in all of our hearts.
