Yvonne Yolanda Garcia was born April 26, 1956 in Portales to the home of Helen Adelina (Lopez) and Napoleon Ermindo Roybal and passed from this life at her home Saturday evening, August 22, 2026. Yvonne attended her school years in Dora where she was active in various clubs, and also played basketball. As a senior, Yvonne was a delegate to New Mexico Girl’s State. After graduating in 1974, she went on to attend classes at Eastern New Mexico University Clovis Campus for two years.
In 1976, Yvonne began working at Portales National Bank. During her 47 years of employment, she worked countless positions, provided training in various community branches and worked her last three years as a teller at the local South Branch. She officially retired in 2023.
On June 11, 1977 at St. Helen Catholic Church, she was married to Paul Garcia. Yvonne had been a member of the Catholic Daughters for 29 years. During that time, she held numerous offices. She served two terms as the Court Regent of Saint Helen of the Cross 2435, as well as terms as Vice Regent, Recording Secretary, Financial Secretary, and District Deputy for the entire state.
Yvonne and her husband enjoyed going to the mountains to fish, and enjoyed visiting the casinos. At home she enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. She was a creative cook, and whatever she made was always delicious. She was especially known for her chili rellenos. In recent years there was a family contest to create the best dessert for holiday meals, and Yvonne’s creations were always the top choice.
Her creativity went beyond the kitchen. She was always able to create unique and special gifts from almost anything. She was a loving, faithful, tender-hearted and faithful friend. Yvonne was a joy to everyone she met. She was loved dearly by her family and the entire community. She had a strong faith, and was soft-spoken, gentle and caring. Yvonne had a heart of gold, and was always a joy to be around.
She is survived by Paul, her husband of more than 49 years of their home; her two sons, Anthony Garcia and Andrew Garcia both of Portales; her mother, Helen Roybal of Portales; a brother, Bobby Roybal of Portales; and a sister, Connie Roybal of Portales. She was preceded in death by her father, Napoleon Roybal.
