The Rosary for Leroy Lucero, 54, of Portales, will be at 9:30 AM, Thurs., Nov. 2, 2017 at St. Helen Catholic Church, followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 AM with Fr. Charles Ugochuckwu as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery.


Leroy Lucero was born Dec. 26, 1962 in Las Vegas, NM to the home of Juanita (Rodarte) and Orlando Lucero, and died Oct. 28, 2017 in Lubbock, TX at the age of 54 years. The family moved to Albuquerque about 1973 to help care for his sister, who was ill. They moved to Portales in 1978. In the late 1980’s he made his home in Amarillo where he worked as a roofer. A few years later, he moved back to Portales, and began working as a plasterer. Leroy worked for R. G. Lathe and Plaster for several years, and actually worked in the re-construction of the mortuary after it burned in 1995. His last place of employment was with Palomino Construction. Leroy was always busy working outside. He was deeply devoted to all of his family from sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, and his numerous nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife, Dora of their home; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Timothy and Ashley Lucero of Carmichael, PA, and Cristopher Sparks and Christopher Arona both of Portales; three daughters, Olivia Lucero of Portales, Samantha Lucero of Perryville, AZ and Adriana Sparks of Portales; seven grandchildren, Cruz Valdez, Jassy Lucero, J. J., Julian, Equis and Alyana Rocha and Riley Lucero; two brothers, Danny Lucero of Portales and Orlando Lucero, Jr. of Lawton, OK; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carmen and Tony Flores of Portales and Jennifer and Albert Luera of Harker Heights, TX; as well as his beloved nieces and nephews and countless family members. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, and a sister, Enedina Lucero who died in 1987.
