Jesus cried out, “It is finished!”
John 19:30 NKJV

Many call today “Good Friday.”

I call it the day hope was born in the darkest place imaginable.

What looked like the absolute end was actually only the beginning.

In that moment on the cross, one chapter of Scripture was gloriously fulfilled, and the next began—the one that poured out eternal hope for anyone who would believe in the name of Jesus.

The cross wasn’t defeat. It was divine completion.

Tetelestai. The debt was paid in full.

My reading today in Isaiah 9 feels perfectly timed. In a season of deep gloom, distress, and oppressive darkness, the prophet declared:
“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.” Isaiah 9:2

Even as Israel groaned under foreign rule, God was already pointing to the coming Messiah—whose kingdom would have no end. The darkness wasn’t the final word. Light was breaking through.

And now, because of what Jesus finished, that same light lives in us.

“You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill cannot be hidden… Let your light shine before people, so that they can see your good deeds and give honor to your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:14-16 NET

Lord, help me carry this light into every dark corner I encounter. Where there is despair, let me speak hope. Where there is oppression, let me walk in freedom. Where there seems to be an ending, remind me that in You, it is only the beginning of something eternal.
