ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Former UNM Lobo and Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday.

The New Mexico native retired in 2013 but continues giving back to the Albuquerque community in many ways, including with an annual golf tournament.

ESPN Albuquerque’s general manager, David Dominguez, told KOB, “Well Brian Urlacher has really been a blessing not only to the radio station, ESPN 101.7 the Team, but to the City of Albuquerque, to the State of New Mexico.”

The station organizes the Brian Urlacher Gold Tournament, which raises thousands of dollars for the local Salvation Army.

“We are honored by the fact that this is the only golf tournament that Brian Urlacher has attached his name to,” Dominguez said.

He said that, by being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Urlacher continues setting a positive example for the children of New Mexico.

“And being able to reach those heights and say, ‘Hey look, I’ve achieved success,’ leads the youngest person watching this TV cast to know he or her can achieve greatness as well,” Dominguez said.

Urlacher grew up in Lovington, New Mexico, played at UNM and was drafted by the Bears where he played his entire career.
