David Brian Griffin was born March 4, 1957, in San Diego, CA to the home of Mary Anne (Webster) and George Harold Griffin, and died at his home in Portales on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2023.  He was born into a military family, and grew up in various duty station locations from France to Turkey and Germany, Maryland, and finally Bosque Farms, NM.  He was a 1975 graduate of Los Lunas High School, and went on to study at New Mexico State University for a year.  It was in the summer of 1976, while he was working hauling hay that he met Annalee Raley.  That fall he joined the US Navy, and they were married on December 27, 1976 in Bosque Farms when he completed Boot Camp.  His first duty station was in Chicago.  Later he was stationed in South Carolina, and went for training in nuclear power in Florida.  From there he received more training in New York.  In September of 1978, he was assigned to the USS John Adams where he served until 1982.

For the following 25 years, Mr. Griffin oversaw the chillers and boilers at Eastern New Mexico University.  While working, he took various Industrial Tech courses with an emphasis in Air Conditioning, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in 1998.  After he retired in 2007, he was rehired as an independent contractor programming the Heating and Air Conditioning systems for the university.  In 2017 he was hired by TME which later merged with Bernhardt to work on a project for Eastern which involved teaching at several locations.

Mr. Griffin was gifted in wood and metal working.  He built beautiful furniture for not only his own home, but for the homes of each of his family members.  His creations also graced the homes of several close friends including Dr. Buck Wilson’s cabin.  He was active in the Literacy Council, and was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honors Fraternity.

He is survived by Annalee, his wife of almost 47 years of their home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Brian Lee and Brandee Griffin of Stanwood, WA, Mark Andrew and Catherine Griffin of McCook, NE and Daniel Allen and Renee Griffin of Coffeeville, KS; ten grandchildren, Luke, Ty, Hunter and Nicole Gray, and Avery, Piper, Sean, Morgan, Ben and Sarah Griffin; two brothers, Michael Griffin and Matthew Griffin both of Kona, HI and four sisters, Karen Zucar, Katherine Griffin, and Susanna Neal of Albuquerque and Patricia Justus of Animas, NM.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Andrew Griffin.
