Just as I commit to crockpot recipes the temperature spikes into the 70’s. Where else can you live, and experience all the seasons in a week’s span? Rather than do main course recipe I am going to a dessert that can be done year-round. This is especially helpful when we are into triple digits and don’t want to heat up the kitchen.
This recipe is a first timer for me, again thank you Pinterest for all the options.

https://www.pinterest.com/shakapuddn/ I did not want to make a trip to the store so I found one that worked with ingredients on hand. The pineapple upside down cake is generally quite easy to begin with. My concern with the crock pot was getting it out in one piece.
You may or may not have noticed that the crockpot in the picture is not the normal kind. Most all my cookware is Saladmaster. Flash back a few years’ pre-cancer… I had sold my business and decided that the hubs and I were going to start eating healthier. I enjoy cooking but like anyone else I get into a rut, fix the same thing or we order out. Our choices however are quite limited here and I am quite picky about where & who we give our money to. On my quest, I had a good friend, Thank you Alison & Dennis invite us to dinner for a demonstration. Of course, my response …We are NOT buying anything. I went into this as skeptical as a person could be and was NOT going to be persuaded to the dark side (Saladmaster). We had a complete meal salad, chicken potatoes 3 veggies & dessert prepped & cooked in the span of 45 minutes.
Now mind you, as I sat on the fence and was not easily impressed, this slowly sucked me in. The cookware did not require oil to fry the chicken and potatoes, did not add water to the veggies,(used frozen corn & green beans + cabbage that cooked in their own juices) and used veggies (from the salad)in the dessert. Bonus! the only spices used on the food was a little seasoning salt on the chicken. Okay, so tell me what’s not healthy about this? I am saving a huge amount of time in my prep and cooking, not adding unhealthy things to my diet and bonus there are no metals or coatings leaching onto my food for me to ingest. The final straw was the metal test at the end of the meal.
Let me tell you, the gentleman (Stan)doing the demo, was quite the charmer & talker. I asked tons of questions and every answer hit a nerve for me. This was a better more efficient, healthy way to cook.
So, you ask, did I purchase? Well no, not that night. I did however book a dinner to invite a few couples to my house and allow Stan to do the demo for my friends. At that point, still on the fence with the cost. This is not cheap cookware, it is not called waterless. This is a titanium based cookware, that heats more evenly and the electric skillet and crock pot have and oil inside the layers of metal. Now what does that do? It does not have coils like the typical skillet, the oil heats and provides even cooking, not those hot spots you get with other cookware. Bonus if it can go on top of the stove it can go into the oven.
After the dinner when the demo was ending and he was preparing his pitch my friends (I invited my siblings & spouses) I did not want to invite the friends until I was sold and using it. I trust word of mouth. Not only did we purchase, my brother his wife & my sister and her husband as well. This was a small investment, but when you consider the cookware has a lifetime guarantee (not many things do) it’s good for you and more efficient and a timesaver, well sign me up. I can’t stress enough if you want to eat better and taste the real flavor of the foods you take the time to prepare….Saladmaster cookware is the perfect start.
Bonus Stan offers cooking classes at his kitchen/business in Amarillo. Granted you must go to Amarillo but who doesn’t need a reason to get out of town and do a little shopping. Some of the demos are seasonal and geared toward holiday cooking. When the demo is done, all get to try the prepared dishes and get a handout with all the recipes and possibly win some cookware or bakeware. The bakeware is so much better. I think we all have had those cookie sheets that twist .. I have yet to experience that with mine. Here is a link to Stan’s Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/lifesvitality.steinco?fref=ts
Here is the recipe I used, the next time I make this it will be the “dump version” This one you make the cake mix per the directions, I can say this is a very moist version and when I checked it, wiped to lid of the crock pot because of all the condensation and so it wouldn’t drip on the cake.

UPSIDE DOWN CAKE

1 Yellow Cake Mix (prepared according to package)
1 can pineapple rings
10 maraschino cherries
½ cup Brown Sugar
Non-Stick Baking Spray
INSTRUCTIONS
Spray 6-quart Crock pot with baking spray. Liberally
Sprinkle the bottom with the brown sugar, and top with the pineapple rings. Place a cherry inside each of the pineapple rings.
Prepare cake mix according to instructions
Pour the cake batter on top of the pineapples. Cover and cook on high for 2 – 3 hours. You will know cake is done when it is firm in the center and begins to pull away from the edges.
Turn off crock pot and remove lid. Allow cake to cool for at least 10 -15 minutes before you flip the cake onto a platter.
Serve

Dump Pineapple Upside Down Cake
½ cup melted butter, divided
⅔ cup brown sugar
20 oz pineapple (crushed or tidbit), drained and juice reserved
1 white or yellow cake mix

Stir together ¼ cup of butter (half of the amount listed), brown sugar and drained pineapple.
Spread this on bottom of slow cooker.
Stir the dry cake mix, remaining ¼ melted butter and pineapple juice in a large bowl.
Pour cake batter over top of pineapple in slow cooker.
Bake on high for 2-3 hours or low for 3-4 hours.

Voila’
