WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Eastern New Mexico football team traveled to #15 Midwestern State University on Saturday night. ENMU battled down to the wire as they took the Mustangs to overtime, but eventually the Hounds fell 31-24.

The Mustangs got the scoring started early in the first quarter with a field goal from Ritse Vaes and didn’t look back as they took a 17-0 lead through the first two quarters.

Eastern broke the shutout attempt with a 27-yard field goal from Cooper Hamilton in the third quarter.

Zachery Fields then caught three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to put the Greyhounds up 21-17.

Midwestern’s Dillon Sterling-Cole connected with K’Vonte Jackson on a 73-yard touchdown reception to put the Mustangs back on top, 24-21 with around eight minutes left in regulation.

ENMU got within field goal range with seconds left on the clock. Hamilton nailed a 38-yarder to tie the game at 24-24 and force overtime.

In the overtime period, the Mustangs started with the ball and converted for a touchdown to gain the 31-24 advantage. Midwestern held Eastern from scoring to secure the overtime victory.

  • Nathan Valencia finished the contest 17-31 passing for 154 yards and three touchdown throws.
  • Eastern’s leading receiver was Fields with three touchdowns and 81 yards.
  • Isaiah Tate rushed for 132 yards on 32 attempts throughout the contest.
