“I would like to thank all of the communities that sent mutual aid for lending support to our Community.”
– Mayor Michael G. Miller
While on the fire on US 70 and South Roosevelt Road P at approximately 0330 the fire extended to several close by warehouses. At that time Portales Fire Department requested mutual aid from several neighboring departments. It was determined that the affected buildings were a total loss therefore personnel and units were tasked with exposure protection and blocking South Roosevelt Road P. The State Fire Marshal’s Office arrived at approximately 1000 to investigate.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation until they have made the determination. At approximately 1330 Dora, Causey, and Elida Volunteer Fire Departments were requested to assist and allow personnel that have been on the fire ground for an extended period to obtain rehabilitation. The area is still closed to the public and we respectfully request the community avoid the area and proceed with caution on US 70 towards Clovis NM. Drivers slowing down to look and take pictures present a risk for flowing traffic so please keep safety in mind.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured person and Hampton Farms. Emergency Personnel will be on scene for quite some time to ensure the safety of the Community all questions can be referred to the Fire/EMS Chief.
