Shanley J. Thompson, 6-year-old daughter of Ty and Danna Thompson of Portales was crowned the 2017 Little Miss Merry Christmas Thursday night at the historic Yam Theatre in downtown Portales. Shanley’s mother Danna Thompson was LMMC exactly 30 years ago.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Thompson won the title from a field of 10 contestants, by fundraising over $4,000 for the Christmas Lighting program in Portales.

As a part of Portales’ holiday tradition, the Little Miss Merry Christmas Contest raises funds for the white Christmas lights that are on display throughout town and on the Courthouse. The contestant that raises the most money through donations collected by her sponsor and through additional fundraising efforts is crowned Little Miss Merry Christmas. The contest ended on Tuesday, Nov. 28 after a month-long campaign.

Other contestants hold the title of princess and all 10 along with newly crowned Miss Portales Kelsey Prince, will lead the Lighted Christmas Parade on the Ambassadors float Friday night at 6:30 p.m. The parade starts at the Portales Rec Center at 18th and Ave. I. The parade then travels
to Avenue D then to Second Street and around the courthouse before disbanding at C&S, Inc. on First Street.

Other contestants were A.J. Vigil, Zanida Duran, Hunter Wade, Patricia Villegas, Izela Villegas, Keilee Rowland, Audree Gonzales, Nyema Carbajal and Nya Carabajal..
