Nelda Dictson Obituary
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Nelda Kay Dictson of Portales, NM. Nelda passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side, Friday, July 17, 2026.
Nelda was born in Littlefield, TX, August 15, 1938, to John and Bessie Drummond. Nelda married J. D. Dictson and they had three wonderful children. Nelda was a loving wife and mother, and she loved her family deeply. For many years, Nelda was an active member of the Assembly of God Church where she worshipped and maintained her strong faith in God.
Nelda engaged in various hobbies, notably her involvement with the Goober Gulch CB Club, where she established numerous friendships over the years. Nelda was a dedicated volunteer with the Red Cross, facilitating emergency leave requests for service member across multiple branches of the military. Additionally, Nelda was the proprietor of Mode O’Day Clothing Store for many years. In her later years, Nelda served as a librarian at ENMU, from which she eventually retired.
In addition to her parents, Nelda was preceded in death by her loving husband of 31 years, J. D. Dictson, by her sister, Corrina Baker, and a great-granddaughter, Madison Dictson. She is survived by her children, Coy Dictson and wife, Tammy of Portales, Sherita Zachek and husband, Kirk of Ozona, TX and Danny Dictson and wife, Shana of San Patricio, NM. Nelda is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Nelda leaves behind a legacy of family, extended family and numerous friends. She will be greatly missed.
A graveside service and burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 15th at the Portales Cemetery with Pastor Rick Wilcher officiating. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers are all of her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, family members and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of Interim/Excelocare Hospice for all of the help, love and care they gave to Nelda.
