There will be a family gathering in memory of Michael Hernandez, 49, of Portales at a later time.
Michael Alexander Hernandez was born May 24, 1977 in Denver, CO to the home of Ramona Louise (Pressley) and Marcial Alex Hernandez, and died at his home near Portales on July 18, 2026. For his first few years of life, he lived in Sacramento, CA. He came to Portales, and then moved to Seattle, WA. In the mid 1990’s he returned to Portales to make his home for the rest of his life. For the past 10 years, he had been the Wash Base Supervisor for Indian River Transport Trucking Company. Michael’s family was of utmost importance to him. He enjoyed spending time with them, and often used different accents and voices to make you laugh. His favorite was to imitate Kermit the Frog. Michael enjoyed gardening, and hunting and fishing. He was a kind and genuine man. What you saw was who he was, and was deeply loved.
He is survived by his life partner, Stephanie Hatch; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jonathan and Kayla Hernandez and Charles and Hannah Hernandez of Clovis; five daughters, Ramona Hernandez and Laura Hernandez both of West Palm Beach, FL, Amber Rose Walker of Clovis, Chasitie Bentley-Hernandez of Tennessee, and Jenevieve Jordan of Portales; and a step-daughter, Katelynn Hatch of Portales; five grandchildren, Lizabeth Murphy, Elijah Murphy and Kloe Murphy, Mikhailo Bentley and Apthas Walker; his father, Marcial Hernandez of Portales; and two sisters, Angela Marie Hernandez of Portales and Mary Poquette of Seattle, WA. He was preceded in death by his mother, a granddaughter, Miracle Willow Grace, and his father-in-law, Steven Hatch.
