Graveside services for Adrian L. Stroup, 78, of Dora, will be at 2:00 PM, Mon., Oct. 30, 2017 in the Mount Zion Cemetery with Gary Simpson officiating. Brady Stroup, Westen Stroup, Tyler Stroup, Kenneth Cox and Wesley Autry will serve as pallbearers.

Adrian Lee Stroup was born March 8, 1939, in Portales, to the home of Audrey Pauline (Beeman) and Robbie Lee Stroup and died at his home, early on the morning of Oct. 26, 2017. His early years were in the Hiway community. However, the family left on two different occasions and moved to Merced, CA to work in the fields because of drought conditions here. He graduated from Dora High School in 1957. After graduation, Adrian worked at a dairy in Clovis, before going to work for the Roosevelt County Telephone Co-op as a lineman. In 1969, he purchased the service station in Dora, and established Stroup Oil Co. After 23 years, he left the service station and began ranching in partnership with his brother-in-law, Jerry Skinner, and his sister, Darlene Davis. He finally retired in 2002 due to his deteriorating health.

On June 13, 1959, at the Dora Church of Christ, he was married to Phyllis Ann Skinner. He was a faithful member of the church all his life. Adrian was a Lifetime Member of the NRA, and had served his community for two terms on the city council. He loved to go camping, hunting and fishing with friends and family. Adrian also enjoyed hunting for arrowheads and reading. When the need arose, he was handy with a needle and thread, and even knew how to crochet.

He is survived by Phyllis, his wife of more than 58 years, of their home; a son and daughter-in-law, Brady and Angel Stroup of Dora; a daughter, Shirlene Peters of Dora; three grandchildren, Westen Lee Stroup, Tyler Ray (Celina) Stroup and Makayla Cheyenne Stroup; three great-grandchildren, Kenlee Ann Stroup, Aydan Lee Stroup and Kolt Bennett; and a sister, Darlene Davis of Elida. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donny Ray Stroup.
