Funeral services for Terry Wayne Miller, 72, of Portales, will be at 2:00 PM, Tues., Mar. 13, 2018 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Dunsworth officiating. All of his many friends will be honorary pallbearers.

Terry Wayne Miller was born Mar. 2, 1946, in Roswell, NM to the home of Nina Sarah (Nelson) and Harold Chester Miller, and died early on the morning of Mar. 9, 2018 in Lubbock, TX. Terry was a 1964 graduate of Roswell High School. Following graduation, he attended classes at the Roswell campus of E.N.M.U. and worked helping his father with his Morton’s Potato Chip distribution business. In 1965, he went to work at the Safeway store in Roswell. On April 20, 1968, he was married to Molly Faye Coker. In 1969, he transferred to the Portales Safeway store so that he could attend classes at the main university campus. He finished his degree in Business Administration and Marketing in 1971, and in 1972, the company moved him to Dodge City, KS where he became store manager. Two years later, he came back to Portales to manage the new Safeway store being built.

After twelve years with Safeway, in 1977, Terry went to work for White Swan Food Distributors. The company eventually became U.S. Food. Terry retired in 2000 due to health concerns after 23 years with the company.

For a few years, he was able to work some. He sold advertising for the local radio station, and later went to work as a warehouse manager for Hampton Farms. In 2004, he completely retired to help take care of his infant grandson. Over the last fourteen years, Terry has worked in his yard and fished, both activities that he enjoyed.

He is survived by Molly, his wife of almost 50 years; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Michael and Dawn Renee Miller of Glenwood, IA and Shaun Allen and Raylene Michelle Miller of Prosper, TX; five grandchildren, Jason Michael (Tamara) Miller of Portales, Jordyn Mekenzie Miller of Glenwood, IA, Kayla (Bryan) Sauer of Independence, MO, and Logan Zane and Hayden Dean Miller of Prosper, TX; five great-grandchildren, Jaiden Memphis, Draven Christian and Jaxon Levi Miller of Portales and Preston Eldon and Payton Anne Miller of Independence, MO; and two sisters, Joy Grace Studdard of Albuquerque and Tammy Sue (David) Seidel of Los Alamos, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents.
